JUNK CHUNK - PUBLIC INTERACTION

The aim of the task is to conduct a public interaction data survey on a chosen domain and understand the primary, secondary, and other methods of direct data collection. The process involves task selection, subject case study, and creative means of data collection within a particular area during a specific time period.

Purpose

  • understanding the concept of public interaction data collection

  • Case study analysis and subject selection.

  • Ideation on the basic execution and demographics.

  • Understanding the demographic study of the target audience.

Problem statment

The main idea was to collect and segregate the waste from the Canteen area to analyze the different kinds of waste generated at a particular time. Analyze the type of waste such as paper-based, plastic-based, foil based or mixed with given slots or time.
The idea was to display or create a module of wastebins that will interact and let the user directly visualise the waste generate and bring awareness regarding waste separation.
Initially the idea was to create module in a abstract from which will take the shape of any element when it gets filled up with waste. Showcasing the waste separation and getting the result directly without creating abstract form, lead to create the module similar to bar graph module.

Form exploration and discussion

Since all the abstract forms were bit difficult to execute we opted for a constructive form which represents a bar graph . Where the x axis represents the type of material and Y axis represents the Volume of the waste generated .

Execution

After finalising the form and discussion with the faculty we further started with  execution part within given time period Since all the abstract forms were bit difficult to execute we opted for a constructive form which represents a bar graph .

The size of the bins were decided after volumetric observation of the garbage the previous day.

We figured that :
transparent bins will be needed to show collection
the bins need to be water tight
the bins needs to be changed after every 12 hours
We prepared bin frames of wood and plastic tarp for transparency and mosquito net for volume.

Conclusion

After the experiment was over we found that:
1. Major waste material collected was paper based in volume and quantity.
2. People were voluntarily seggregating the waste when given an option.
3. People were confused when dumping waste made of paper & foil both.
4. The waste collected was local to the experiment area which can be regulated by the vendors.
